What's the Hurry?

"What's the Hurry?" by Patti Russell

Inman Perk Gainesville welcomes the artistic stylings of Patti Russell for the month of August.

From Patti Russel:

My artistic style is “expressionistic”. I do not strive to make a sunflower look just like the real flower but rather my “feeling of the flower and its attitude” at that particular time. If I am painting a landscape I don’t copy my photo reference, but rather I use several photos – taking the sky from one, the land from another, a tree from another, and then putting all the photos aside – finishing the painting in whatever way it seems to work best for me. Thus my landscape paintings are not of a specific place – but a place in my mind that is totally unique.

Tell Me A Story: Finding Your Way Through Abstract Art
“Artwork allowing for inner exploration and to encourage sharing with others to promote community.”
by Rachel Q. Landers

June 2009 @ Inman Perk Gainesville

More about Rachel:

Rachel Q. Landers earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, with a concentration in Scientific Illustration from the University of Georgia in 2006. She currently lives in Gainesville, Georgia.
Rachel’s artwork, by moving away from realism, acknowledges that viewers bring a lexicon of experience and concurrent emotion to a painting. She would like her artwork to encourage discourse – facilitating storytelling and a sense of community. This holds a significant place in her art and philosophy.

Tying together aspects of life and nature with spirituality, Rachel creates mystery, in essence – pos sibilities. When creating her art, she feels it is challenging as well as freeing to accept change and adapt to what emerges. By layering perhaps unusual combinations of shapes and colors which contrast and resolve, her work represents life with its undulating tensions– and sometimes surprising beauty. She wishes to broaden her outlook visually as well as in day to day interactions. It is an optimistic process.

The Gainesville Roots Project

Welcome to The Gainesville Roots Project: A neighborhood effort to revitalize and regrow the Gainesville Square through community-based music, art, and events.

The G.R.P. is a grassroots effort of local business owners, artists, musicians, and general do-gooders that are interested in creating a better Square.  We believe our community is stronger than the current establishment — and by banding together, we can turn the Square into the central art district of Gainesville.
