Nate Currin is a singer/songwriter who uses music to tell stories about life, love, and other emotional circumstances that affect us all. Nate blends contemporary folk, blues, acoustic rock, and radio pop styles into a singer/songwriter feel. Having shared the stage with many big names in the music industry, Nate is familiar with the big-time stage and what it takes to succeed.
Hailing from the north Atlanta area, Nate plays shows all over the southeastern U.S. from Florida, to the Carolinas, and occasionally even ventures to California to play the west coast. His following has grown through MySpace and other online music portals, and Nate has been featured on several music websites, online articles, and newspaper publications.

To close out the season on May 22, we have invited Havana Son to join us for again, but this time for an evening of dancing and music under the stars on the patioof the Smithgall Arts Center. With jazz playing in the background, friends dancing to the music, and an intimate atmosphere, what could be better?

Joe Gransden Quartet @ Smithgall Arts Center

If you love the sounds of Chet Baker or Frank Sinatra, then the April 17th performance is right up your alley. Thirty-five year old Joe Gransden will dazzle you with his singing voice and hard bop approach on his trumpet. Joe Gransden’s has done some sideman gigs for Barry White, Aretha Franklin, and the Temptations. Joe has performed world wide, at venues including The Jazz Corner in Hilton Head, SC, The Museum of Art and Design in Manhattan, Spivey Hall in Atlanta, GA, and Tehema Golf Club in Carmel, CA. Joe recently performed with Kenny G at Chastain Park in Atlanta, GA and is currently working on a smooth jazz CD with Kenny G as well.

Drawing inspiration from musicians like Imogen Heap, Annie Lennox, Kate Bush and Moby, Jennings’ surge in musical expression started after the loss of her mother. “This tragedy rocked me to the core, but there is so much beauty in what it allowed me to do,” she says. “All of my emotions came pouring out in the form of melody”.
Jennings has built on the lessons of her life and musical journey and courageously perfected the delicate balance between vulnerability, honesty and grit. “I believe that the difference between an artist and the average person is a fearless and relentless willingness to expose their quarks, oddities, secrets, and passions for all of the world to see and hear.”

Music Lovers Rejoice! Inman Perk Gainesville is happy to announce The Friday Night Music Gathering! Come join host Eva Gael and other local performers for an ole’ fashioned community music fest! Music begins at 7pm every Friday night.

Eva Gael began singing as a toddler and has been singing ever since. She began playing guitar as a young adult in rural Old Church, just outside of Richmond, Virginia. Her early songs came quickly and powerfully, and immediately established Eva as a musical force to be reckoned with. In 1992 Eva moved from her hometown to the “new South” city of Charlotte, North Carolina. Eva soon began hooking up with area musicians for jam sessions and gigs. After a brief stint in a southern rock cover band with sister Etta Lea, Eva returned to performing her original material as a solo act. Eva is a singer-songwriter in the folk-rock tradition. Powerful vocals and acoustic guitar deliver an appealing blend of catchy hooks and intense lyrics. Eva was a finalist in the Charlotte Lilith Fair competition in 1999. She has performanced at Living Art, the Double Door, the Evening Muse, the Tosco Music Party, the NoDa Gallery Crawls and as part of the Women of Folk Rock Showcase, which featured an awesome cast of talented female songwriters. Eva has opened for Michelle Malone, Kristen Hall and Kid Sister. She’s also shared the stage with Christy Snow, Deanna Lynn, John Dungan, and of course the fabulous ladies of the Near Misses!

John McAndrew is a singer, a piano player and a storyteller…the songs he writes tell stories taken from his travels and observations of life. To McAndrew lyrics are power. Without taking lesson John taught himself to play the piano, sax, flute, guitar and harmonica and along the way fell in love with lyrics…the words that breathe live onto a song. McAndrew describes himself as a ‘pops/blues’ artist who when at home listens to a lot of jazz. Some of the selections that John will perform at Evenings of Intimate Jazz are from his cd “I’ll Play All Night Long.”

Some storytellers use a medium of ink and paper to craft their stories. John McAndrew envelops his stories with piano notes and his voice, bringing them to life in movies, on nearly a dozen of his albums and even an upcoming Broadway show.
McAndrew calls himself a songwriter first, but he also plays the piano and sings in a deep, bluesy voice that instantly puts the listener at ease. And it’s this connection, McAndrew said, that’s why he was always drawn to music as a way to tell his stories.
“Music is powerful because it connects the head and the heart, and sometimes we need to touch the heart before people can think about things,” he said in a phone interview with The Times. “Music’s a powerful way to talk about anything, so almost all the songs I write are true stories or things that happen.”
McAndrew brings these life stories to The Arts Council’s Smithgall Arts Center at 8 p.m. Saturday as part of the Evenings of Intimate Jazz series. (continue reading…)
Jeff Miller Live @ Inman Perk

Before his freshman year of high school, Jeff Miller decided to sell all of his video games and buy his first guitar. Soon after, songwriting became a passion. After high school, Miller was off to Boston’s Berklee College of Music, where he studied Guitar Performance and Songwriting.
A degree from Berklee, a move back home to Pittsburgh, PA, a move to Nashville, and 3 solo albums (and an EP) later, Jeff Miller is still playing music. In fact, he plays over 150 shows a year, touring the east and the midwest. His music has received airplay at over 175 stations, in the U.S. and abroad. His latest effort, Seesaw, was co-produced by Matt Mangano (Darrell Scott, John Mayer, Dave Barnes), who also played bass on the album. It also features Nick Buda (Edwin McCain, Mindy Smith) on drums and percussion.
Miller still hasn’t found a regular band. But that’s fine with him and his listeners. At his live shows, he uses a device to record and loop guitar and vocal parts, creating more sound than many bands do.
Using his voice, guitar, hands and feet, he is able to act as each member of a regular band – a singer, guitarist, bassist, even a drummer.
